FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is included in the package price?
Whether you choose 1/4, 1/2 or a whole cow, we take care of all the details for you.
We raise the animal, deliver it to the butcher, pick it up when it is ready and deliver it to your door!
The meat is CUT & WRAPPED for ideal freezer storage.

All packages come with an assortment of cuts from throughout the animal. Soup bones, Organ Meat and Animal scraps are always offered as part of the package, if you want them. Nothing goes to waste here!
What is Hot Dressed Weight (Carcass weight or HCW) ?
Hot dressed weight is the weight of the animal after harvest- once the hide, head, hooves and internal organs are removed, but before the beef is chilled and cut. Beef is measured this way because it is the industry standard; the most accurate, consistent and fair point of measurement in the processing chain.

From this point, the meat is aged (hung for 14 days), trimmed, and cut into the beef packages that you take home.
How much freezer space do I need?
We usually suggest that a 1/4 animal fits in an apartment size deep freeze.

We can't say exactly how many packages you receive of each cut, because every animal is a different size, but safe to say, you should do a big freezer clean out before your order arrives!
The meat is cut, packaged and frozen in compact sizes to help with storage.
Can I pick my own custom cuts?
If you order 1/2 or whole beef, you could have the option of choosing your own custom cuts.

If you choose this option, you would be responsible for relaying your preferences to the butcher that we use (you will be provided the contact information) and you would also be responsible for covering any additional costs that may be acquired during the cutting, processing or packaging stages. (Example: more ground beef means increase in grinding fees, single pack steaks increases wrapping fees).

We value our customer feedback and take that into consideration their preferences, that is why we have settled on the cuts, sizes and packaging we currently offer. If you have a request you would like us to consider, let us know!
Is your beef grass-fed or grass-finished?
Our cattle are all raised on pasture as long as possible with the Manitoba climate. They graze on a variety of grasses as they are rotated through different pastures. Rotating pastures is important for both soil health, allowing it to rest and regenerate and cattle health, providing them variety of needed nutrients. In winter, they are forage-fed and forage/grain finished in open pens for optimal animal health.

We do offer some grass-fed/grass-finished products when available (Summer/Fall). Get on our email list to be the first to know!
Is your beef organic?
Short answer, No. We are not a certified "organic" farm.

What we can tell you is that our farm uses regenerative farming practices and biological fertilizer (manure) to support the soil and hay crop production.
We pasture-raise on natural grass for as long as possible, and the mineral and grain they are offered is tailored to their needs for healthy growth. It is by no means, force fed.
Are your cattle ever given antibiotics or hormones?
Our cattle are never given growth hormones and they are not given generalized antibiotics in feedlot style environments.

We do, however, care deeply for our animals. If they are sick; have pneumonia, a hoof infection, mastitis or any other illness that warrants treatment, we do provide the medication they need to heal. We do not want our animals to suffer.

Keeping this in mind, ALL of our animals will go through the proper withdrawal period for medication before being considered for butcher.
